This surgical technique is used in a small number of nail abnormalities (ingrown nail, nail granulomas, nail plate trauma). This procedure requires local or regional anethesia.
When a mycotic or bacterial infection of the nail is suspected this may necessitate further lab investigations (mycological exam along with antifungigram or histopathologic exam) followed by local or systemic treatment.
